candy bar costs ¢39 while my bag of jelly beans costs ¢59.
Laura's pack of gum costs ¢29 and John's popsicle costs ¢19.

Solution:
Q1: 39+59+29+19=146
Q2: 40+60+30+20-4=146

1. Add the tens number : 50+30+20+10 = 110 2. Multiply the ones number:
9 X 4 =36 3. Total up both :110+36=146

Q2: Turn the 9's into 0
The easy way to do this problem is to turn 39 into 40, 59 into 60, 29
into 30, and 19 into 20. Add these up. 40+60=100 and 30+20=50 100+50=150.
But you have to subtract the number of 9's turned into 10's.I turned
4 9's into 10's so 150-4=146, which is the answer!

First I rounded each number to the nearest tens place. Then I added
them up to get a rounded answer. But I had to adjust it to get the correct
answer by subtracting 1 from each price four times ($1.50-.04). That
gave me the true amount they spent on sweets, which was $1.46!
