Can you help weigh the elephant?

This is an old Chinese problem.

An elephant has to be weighed before it's loaded onto the ship, but the scales at the dock are not large enough.

Yet, the clever dock workers managed to find out the elephant's weight... Look closely at the picture for the clues and you'll be able to find out how they did it.
