Visual, step-by-step, interactive presentation of the place value concept in comparing and ordering large numbers.

  • Place Values: Compare and Order Numbers is subdivided into two 15-20 minute Learning Sessions (LS): Comparing Numbers and Ordering Numbers .
  • Each Learning Session is made up of an interactive game plus a worksheet to help students organize and pace their learning, and also allows parents and teacher to keep track and evaluate their progress.

Comparing Numbers
Learn how to compare large numbers using the place value concept.

Comparing Numbers
Lesson starts with an introduction of mathematical symbols for "greater than", "less than", and "equal". The lesson next proceeds to explain how to compare large numbers by comparing their place values.

Practice exercises follow the lesson. Each problem provides a helpful hint and an answer to the question, so students can further solidify their understanding of place values and number comparison.

Comparing Numbers
Review worksheets with problems of the type:

-Apply correct symbol (<, >, or =) in the mathematical expression.
-Identify the largest number in the group.
-Identify the smallest number in the group.

Ordering Numbers
Learn how to order large numbers by comparing their place values.

Ordering Numbers
Lesson starts with the basic concept of ordering numbers from the least to the gretest and from the greatest to the least. The lesson next proceeds to explain how to order large numbers by comparing their place values.

Practice exercises follow the lesson. Each problem provides a helpful hint and an answer to the question, so students can further solidify their understanding of place values and number ordering.

Ordering Numbers
Review worksheets with problems of the type:

-Order numbers from the least to the gretest.
-Order numbers from the gretest to the least.
-Pick the number that goes next in the least.

At the completion of the course, students will be able to compare and order numbers through hundred thousands.

The following recommendations provide guidelines for students wishing to gain the most benefit from their study using the program:

  • Continuity is important.  The course is designed to be self-paced and self-guiding, so you may be working on one lesson session for several days or complete two lesson sessions in one day. It is important to work continuously and regularly in order to develop good learning habits that will stay with them throughout their education.
  • Be flexible. It is recommended that a student should work on the course for 15-30 minutes a day.  However, there is a lot of flexibility in how you can use that time. You can choose to just do the interactive game during one session, and tackle the worksheets the next day, or combine both activities in each session until the designated lesson session is completed.
  • Do not skip worksheets! All lesson sessions consists of an interactive program and a printable worksheet. It is very important to complement the interactive programs with the worksheets. They have been designed as a valuable learning reinforcement to further help students improve their reading and writing skills.
